Spending way to long on the course....

I recently did a 25k trail run/hike with a friend. And I should emphasize the hike part, because we took over 5 hours to finish the entire course.

But moreso than going on the longest run of my life, I learn a lot more about the ultra world and trail running.
  1. Trail running is awesome. Despite being vertical for 5 straight hours and moving the whole time I've had very few aches and pains since the race. Normally after 8 or 9 miles my feet and hips are sore.
  2. Ultra runners are the coolest people I've met yet. And I have extra thoughts about this because I feel like every ultra marathoner I've meet is happy just to say what race they've done and how far it was. They'll only mention time is it was a X-Hour race or if you ask them directly. If you run mostly 10k or 5ks everyone asks how long it took and what your PR is.
  3. Never believe a race director when they say there will be enough beer.
Seriosuly, the race was advertised as "all you can eat and more beer than we need" and when I finshed (with about 25 people still behind me) they were out of beer and our of hamburgers. So I got a warm Budweiser and a hotdog with no bun.
